Layla Sailor
Layla Sailor is a photographer, filmmaker and educator based between China and the UK. Her work is a mixture of carefully planned prop making, technical considerations, art direction and spontaneous playful interaction with subjects.
“When commissioned by Curated Place to produce portraits of the participants for Town Hall Tales, I decided to take a playful approach to representing the textures of The Town Hall in the studio and portraying each unique personality and story. The stylistic and technical elements were directly influenced by the subjects on the day, their stories and the objects that were precious to them. I worked with assistants from DANC (Disabled Artists Networking Community) and together we created an inclusive space for re-enactions, surprises and poignant moments - framed within a set design inspired by the forgotten corners of Manchester Town Hall.”
