Curated Place in collaboration with Einkofi Productions in Iceland and Factory Light Festival in Slemmestad, Norway are proud to present de:LUX, a creative new Audio and Visual catalyst that enables the fast prototyping of creative ideas by artists embedded in archives through noncompetitive collaboration. The platform and network was initiated with #OPSTARTfunding and continued with support by Nordic Culture Fund, Nordic Culture Point, The Norwegian Art Council & Creative Europe.

The de:LUX platform connects and develops the music and AV creative community in Iceland, across the Nordics and the UK. It is a series of non-competitive collaborative creative events where experienced visual and sonic artists are partnered up to deliver a time-bound light and sound installation challenge over 48 hours, resulting in a guerrilla projection and light trail through a building, a city centre or series of other unique locations in each host town.

 
 
 
 

The aim is to provide artist mobility experiences, enable skill-sharing and hands on experience with new technologies, build new opportunities for artists to create silo-breaking work and put the focus back on creative ideas over and above expensive equipment. At its core is using modern digital creative technology as tools rather than the medium and the mantra forged by the Kino-Kabaret film movement “Do well with nothing, do better with little, but do it now!” - that means to realise creative ideas, without any budget and within a very short time constraint.

COLLABORATIONS

Provided with a standardised kit list of equipment, space to work, and locations with infra-structure support for exhibition/installation the aim is to provide affordable artist mobility and festival experiences that deliver for placemaking cultural events, enabling networking, capacity building and hands on experience. Using both new and old technologies it builds new opportunities for artists to create innovative work and put the focus back on creative ideas over and above technology alone.

Tonik Ensemble
Tonik Ensemble

Anton Águstsson is a Reykjavik-based composer, designer, and author exploring the synaesthetic intersection of sight and sound. Anton performs and produces his music under the name Tonik Ensemble and vocal collaborators on his 2015 debut album 'Snapshots' included Icelanders, Hörður Már Bjarnason, who has been part of the Tonik live set since 2012, Jóhann Kristinsson and Icelandic icon Ragnhildur Gísladóttir. His music explores the vast expanse of the electronic spectrum with the soundscape becoming a mix of electronics and the more organic live instruments. As a composer, Águstsson discovered early that color has a strong influence on the end result. The gap between sound and sight fades away when songwriting resembles more the process of painting on canvas.

Hafdís Bjarnadóttir
Hafdís Bjarnadóttir

A native of Reykjavík, Iceland, Hafdís Bjarnadóttir started playing electric guitar at the age of 12. She was soon performing in bands and writing her own music, with an initial focus on rock and folk. In 2002, she graduated in jazz guitar performance from the FÍH School of Music. Keen to develop her compositional voice, she earned a bachelor’s degree in contemporary composition from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2007 and a master’s degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2009. She has a reputation for breaking down barriers between different genres of music, and received wide acclaim in 2015 for her "Sounds of Iceland", a journey through Iceland made up of a series of field recordings of the natural sounds of waterfalls, birds, lakes, the sea and geysers.

Reidun Solvik
Reidun Solvik

Reidun is an artist, art director and creator. She has a bachelor in visual communication and has since studied Interactive Art Direction at Hyper Island in Stockholm. After her studies, she worked for Moment Factory in Montreal, one of the world's leading companies in interactive multimedia installations and stage shows. Reidun works and experiments with various media and techniques to create her work. During her time at Moment Factory she helped create the largest immersive multimedia installation of any airport in the Americas, at Los Angeles International Airport. Reidun contributed with ideas, mock-ups, and for the interactive portals she also designed a series of four different stringed instruments based on different flight destinations and passenger movements.

Ingrid Solvik
Ingrid Solvik

Ingrid Solvik is an Oslo-based artist and scenographer, working within a wide range of techniques and visual expressions. She has studied at The Norwegian Film School and has a Master in Bio-Digital Architecture at ESARQ in Barcelona, a study focusing on digital production methods and alternative solutions for the future. Her works include video projections and animations, sculptural and kinetic installations, as well as scenography for stage and film. Recurring themes in her works relate to human/machine/nature-relationships. The expression is often playful, but with somber undertones.

Kaja Haven

Kaja haven is a Copenhagen based Norwegian multidisciplinary artist working within spatial transformation, often creating a blurred line and temporary spot between fantasy and real life. The artist was educated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in 2016, has a background as a singer and electronic artist and works across a breadth of unique projects.

Ísidór Jökull Bjarnason
Ísidór Jökull Bjarnason

Ísidór Jökull Bjarnason is an Icelandic musician and artist that craves to explore human perception. He is currently studying New Media Composition at the Icelandic University of the Arts. He has been taking part in the Reykjavík music scene for a few years now as a solo artist under the name Aftenging. At the same time he has been exploring how to convey the emotions of the music through visuals and lighting and blends that into his solo performances as well as doing VJ work.

Pekka Stokke

Pekka Stokke is a Norwegian visual artist focused on perception and its relationship with light, how light and projected structures can shape and transform physical reality and transcend the categories of our patterned reading of the world. Light is architecture/darkitecture to fill the masses and voids of a spatial construction. With a wide range of co-conspirators and associates, Pekka Stokke designs, builds and programs living sculptures using light in natural or artificial form, with any physical shape or material, as fits the project.

Mads Buus
Mads Buus

MAD ES is a Danish visual artist working mainly with light as a medium. Educated as an Art Director and Illustrative designer, MAD ES has a strong background in design and creative conceptual work, which after graduation fused with his love for music. Using midipads as instruments to trigger his visuals live, and by producing all visual content by himself he has created unique visual experiences for artists such as Jillionaire (Major Lazer), DJ Snake, Nadastrom, and Hudson Mohawke. Recently his work concentrates on visual installations that plays with our perception using projected light.
